Trent Richardson

RB, Alabama

Height 5’11

Weight 224

Scouting Report

Power

When I heard Richardson can easily bench 450lbs and squat 600lbs I took notice.  He is arguably the strongest RB in the nation and when he squares his shoulder he is a load to bring down for any one defender.  Richardson will easily break though arm tackles and will have tons of yards after contact.

Elusiveness/Speed

Could fit into just about any scheme, but a zone blocking team may be the best fit.  He has great footwork and quickness to make one cut and go.  We will see what 40 time he runs at the combine or at his pro day, but reports out of Alabama have his 40 time at 4.4.

Vision

Has great patience at the line and waits for the hole to develop  and will use his speed to bounce it to the outside when nothing is there.  His vision mixed with his power will make him a a big play threat and an ideal short yardage back.

Pass Blocking/Receiving Ability

Like most rookies coming into the NFL he will have to work on his pass blocking, but is adequate blocker.  He is powerful and has the tools to become a solid blocker and stay on the field as a every down back.  Richardson wasn’t really asked to run a ton of routes out of the backfield at Alabama as he was used primarily on swing passes and check downs.  Another area where he is solid, but can improve.

Potential Landing Spots

  • Browns

The Browns need a bunch of dudes on offense.  Richardson could fit the bill.

  • Bucs

It was clear the Bucs didn’t trust Blount last season in pass protection and Richard could slide right into the starting RB role.

  • Jets

Shonn Greene is entering his 4th year and has shown he is not the answer for Rexy’s Ground and Pound.  Richardson could be a star in Sparano’s offense.  He probably will be long gone by their pick.

The Final Word

He is the most complete RB is the NFL draft and will be a rare first round RB pick.  He finished third in Heisman votes this season as he totaled over 2,000 yards and scored 24 TDs.  Although he split carries at Alabama and reportedly wore down late in games, but there is not a more complete RB this season.  He is short and powerful like MJD with a dash of Adrian Peterson.

He should be the first pick in dynasty drafts and depending where he lands he could be a top 10 fantasy RB this season.  He that’s good.
